Indie Music from Scotland

It’s time to string some Scottish songs together again. The volume of quality music generated by Scottish bands hasn’t changed. However, the segment of the blogosphere that is dedicated to the Scottish sound is shrinking, partially because bloggers have moved on entirely and partially because still-functioning blogs have reduced their number of posts per month.
Indie Obsessive is not ready to pick up the ball. The expertise is lacking. But here are some songs that we enjoy.
Fatherson is a quartet from the town of Kilmarnock, but they are now based in Glasgow. The members are Ross Leighton (guitar, vocals), Marc Strain (bass), Greg Walkinshaw (drums), and Chris Beltran (guitar, keyboards).

Singer/songwriter Ali Milesi uses the performance moniker “lists.” He is in Edinburgh and he released his first single this week. Let’s toast the promising start.

This Silent Forest was introduced to Indie Obsessive on November 13, 2013. The band released another song this week - "We Are We Were." They are from Glasgow and they bring the guitar-generated “wall of sound” that we most enjoy about the Scottish sound. The members are Graeme Macdonald (vocals and rhythm guitar), Jamie Sturt (lead guitar and vocals) Evan Macdonald (drums) and JJ McGowan (bass and vocals).

Foreignfox is another new entry to the Scottish sound. The members are Jonny Watt (vocals, guitar), Paul Devine (guitars, bass), Lewis Hamilton (guitars, keys, glockenspiel) and Nick Hernandez (bongos). For the charity-specific release of “Yoghurt,” the additional musicians were Fraser MacIntyre (guitars, backing Vocals) and Karen Fishwick (trumphet). The information is pasted below the song.

     Lyrics
They say 'write about just what you know',
But I know nothing of how these cancers grow,
But hopefully it will be slow, So we can take our time,

Because if I break down my mother will too,
Because this thing my father's going through,
Thinking it would be easier if I had it too,
So he'd have someone to relate to.

Home won out in the end,
And the stone in my shoe, it has taken my leg.

So we'll focus on the problems of others,
Try to find ourselves new sisters and brothers,
'Cause my chances of survival must be slim,
'Cause I've got the same genes as him,

An artist told me to paint just what I see,
But all I see casts doubt in me,
So I think I'll just paint a big black spot,
For all the things I forgot.
