“Stay Weird” by We’re No Heroes – A Song Review

     By Rebecca Gross; Twitter: @becsgross

Indie funk has never sounded as good as it does in We’re No Heroes’ new single, “Stay Weird.” The walking bass line, 1980s style, and a touch of a pungent horn in the background are sure to open up your mind to a combination of retro and futuristic sounds all in one.
This pattern of bringing retro tones back into a modern context has been seen with other artists recently as well. MS MR, Catfish & The Bottlemen, and Circa Waves are just a few names of other artists that have been jumping on this vintage trend. But We’re No Heroes is doing this in a jazzier way with this new single, and we’re curious to see how this is going to play out in future music of theirs.
Since their last single, “Voodoo,” was released in July, fans are hoping that We’re No Heroes will drop a new album soon. Although the lyrics aren’t entirely complex in themselves, a few words stand out. “Let the jungle in your mind go wild,” We’re No Heroes advises. So as you listen to this song and wait for new tunes of theirs to appear, let your mind expand with intrigue and wonder of what’s to come next.
