"Feedback" by Rodes Rollins – A Song Review

“Feedback” steps through three phases in the first 90 seconds. For almost a minute, the song has a gentle nature. Then, it turns beat heavy, until the chorus arrives at 1:28. Each step is interesting, but it’s the journey that makes the song blogworthy.
At the start of “Feedback,” the woman is young and her summer lover is with an older man who joins the army. The early experience is described with a gentle innocence. The gentleness drops when the song jumps to a later experience, since “Now, I’m a woman!” It seems the early-life love has been rekindled.

Rodes Rollins was raised in Boulder, Colorado. She is nomadic now, with connections to New York and Los Angeles. “Feedback” was on her five-track EP, “Young Adult.”

Lyrics of "Feedback" by Rodes Rollins
He was a summer when the trees were green
He was a lover but the trees are sleeves
He grew much older, joined the army
He was my lover for a summer
When I was sixteen

High tide come again
Come take a swim
Sweep me up and pull me in
When there comes that time
And it's on your mind
I'm your only consequence

There all along
Had I known
Had I known
There was no warning
For feeling that omen
So boy, keep it coming
I need that feedback
Now, I'm a woman
Let me read your fortune
But oh, that’s just torture
I need that feedback

Move like we don't know
Rhythm sings slow
Feeling high but sinking low
Fire keeps running wild
Owning the night
Maybe make you feel alright

There all along
Had I known
Had I known

There was no warning
For feeling that omen
So boy, keep it coming
I need that feedback
Now, I'm a woman
Let me read your fortune
But oh, that’s just torture
I need that feedback
[Repeat 2x]

Now, I'm a woman
Let me read your fortune
But oh, that’s just torture
I need that feedback
