“No Hole In My Head” by She Drew the Gun – A Song Review

Here’s an appropriate song if you enjoy fusion of the 1960’s Folk resurgence with 21st century musical sensibilities, particularly if you respect the messaging behind today’s International Women’s Day. She Drew the Gun put their spin on “No Hole In My Head,” a song written by Malvina Reynolds in 1965. Reynolds was a Folk singer/songwriter and political activist from San Francisco. She passed in 1978.
The lyrics to “No Hole In My Head” are included in this post. Yes, I’m a woman; but hey, a woman’s head is not full of nothin’.

“No Hole In My Head” will be on the album “Memories Of Another Future,” which is scheduled for release on March 17 on Skeleton Key Records. She Drew the Gun is comprised of Louisa Roach (vocals, lead guitar), Jack Turner (bass), Siân Monaghan (drums) and Jenni Kickhefer (keys). They are based in the UK, but will attend SXSW next week.

The video “Thank You” states an appreciation of female singers who paved the way to the current musical environment. “Life would have been more lame without you.” Malvina REynolds is shown at 0:18.

Lyrics of “No Hole In My Head” by She Drew the Gun
Everybody thinks my head's full of nothin’
Try to put their special stuff in
Fill the space with candy wrappers
Keep out sex and revolution
But there's no hole in my head
Too bad

Call me a dupe of this and the other
Call me a puppet on a string, well
They don't know my head's full of me, and
I got my own special thing
And there's no hole in my head
Too bad

I have lived since early childhood
Figuring out what's going on
And I know what hurts, I know what's easy
And know when to stand and when to run
And there's no hole in my head
Too bad

So, please stop shouting in my ear
There's something I’m trying to listen to
There's a kind of birdsong up somewhere
Feet walking where I want to run
There's no hole in my head
Too bad

Everybody thinks my head's full of nothin’
Try to put his special stuff in
Fill the space with candy wrappers
Keep out sex and revolution
But there's no hole in my head
Too bad

There’s no hole in my head
Too bad
There’s no hole in my head
Too bad
